Overview Against the Storm
In Against the Storm, you take on the role of the Viceroy, a leader sent by the Scorched Queen to reclaim the wilderness and uncover lost riches for the Smoldering City—civilization’s last hope after the Blightstorm wiped out the old world. Unlike typical city builders that focus on managing just one settlement, here you’ll need to oversee a network of cities, each filled with different fantasy races, all of which have their own specialties and needs. As you build your cities you will face constant threats from the dangerous wilderness and Relentless storms that could break your population’s spirit. If a settlement falls, the expedition might fail, but the game doesn’t end. With the roguelite design of Against the Storm, each journey into the wild carries forward your hard-earned resources, upgrades, and experience, giving you a new shot at success with each attempt.
You will be working with a mix of races including foxes beavers lizards humans and harpies all trying to survive the harsh environment. It is your job to balance their needs and strengths from housing and food preferences to their tastes in luxuries and recreation. Will you keep morale high by making raincoats, brewing ale, and baking pies, or will you focus on the needs of one race over another to move faster for the Scorched Queen’s demands?
The core city-building gameplay is combined with roguelite replayability, allowing you to spread settlements across a large world map while collecting meta-progression resources to upgrade the Smoldering City. The Scorched Queen is always watching, expecting constant progress, and the looming Blightstorms will continue to threaten your cities. Success in one settlement is just the beginning—you’ll need to move on and build more, taking on unique challenges across different biomes, all while ensuring the Smoldering City stands strong.
Each city location in Against the Storm presents its own challenges, with hundreds of gameplay modifiers and six distinct biomes to test even the most skilled Viceroy. You will need to adjust your strategy to the ever changing weather adapt to new building blueprints and perks and decide whether to take risks for potential rewards or play it safe to protect your city. The Trader will bring new opportunities each year and the forest holds both treasures and hidden threats that could turn the tide in your favor or spell disaster.
One of the most exciting aspects of Against the Storm is the constant opportunity to lay the foundations of new cities while maintaining connections with your previously built ones. Every time you start a new settlement you’re not just expanding your network you are evolving your entire world.
