Overview Norland
The Empire has collapsed leaving behind a patchwork of successor kingdoms where lords and ladies fight for control. Whenever these kingdoms are rife with feuds and power struggles both within families and between rival factions. As greater threats loom on the horizon the land is also plagued by famines and disunity. The peasantry suffers, noble families fall into decadence, and outside the borders, invading armies gather under the banners of warlords. Your family rules over the kingdom, but that doesn’t mean they always work together. Each family member has their own strengths ambitions and personalities that shape their decisions whether it is managing the kingdom or engaging in political schemes. Relationships develop between family members and foreign rulers alike with friendships betrayals and assassinations all becoming part of the narrative. While some nobles lead armies or oversee the peasants others delve into ancient texts to unlock knowledge that can shape the future of your kingdom.
The skills of your family members will be crucial in determining their roles whether they are warriors scholars or Negotiators. Training the next generation is key to ensuring your family’s success but watch out for internal conflicts. Traits like envy and ambition can drive family members to turn against one another, and sometimes bloodshed within the family is inevitable. How you manage these relationships will decide whether your family thrives or falls apart. However knowledge is another valuable asset as your nobles study ancient texts to unlock new technologies. This knowledge can be lost if a family member dies, so it’s essential to teach and preserve what they’ve learned.
Peasants are the backbone of your kingdom, keeping the city running and fighting on the battlefield. However, they’re not mindless servants—they have their own needs, desires, and frustrations. If their bellies are empty or the beer runs dry, they might rebel or turn to crime. Balancing their needs with your kingdom’s resources is a constant challenge, and how you choose to rule—whether as a kind lord or with an iron fist—will affect the loyalty of your people. Keep them motivated with fair wages and low prices, but be careful of who you allow into your kingdom, as different cultures and factions can create tensions.
